Recovery Groups and Organizations:

Route 1520:   Route1520 is built on the firm belief that individuals cannot change through mere willpower or simply learning Biblical principles and trying to carry them out. We believe that change takes place in community as we take the Gospel of Jesus Christ more deeply into our understanding and into our hearts. This process is a journey and not a quick-fix formula.

Route1520 Recovery Groups offer a safe place for individuals to find support, care, direction, and prayer in community with fellow strugglers. One of the dangers of sex addiction is the secrecy that results when we buy into the lie that we are alone in our struggle with sexual sin. The shame which drives addiction begins to dissipate as individuals allow themselves to be fully known by other members of the group. Our groups provide authentic, transparent community and open discussion around the deep heart issues that drive destructive behavior.

Route1520 facilitates recovery groups for men who struggle with sexual addiction and women who are or have been involved with a sex addict.

Recovering Couples Anonymous:  Ours is a fellowship of recovering couples. We suffer from many addictions and dysfunctions, and we share our experience, strength, and hope with each other that we may solve our common problems and help other recovering couples restore their relationships. The only requirement for membership is the desire to remain committed to each other and to develop new intimacy.

There are no dues or fees for membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. We are not allied with any organization. We do not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorse nor oppose any causes.

Although there is no organizational affiliation between Alcoholics Anonymous and our fellowship, we are based on the principles of AA. Our primary purpose is to stay committed in loving and intimate relationships and to help other couples achieve freedom from dysfunctional relationships.

S-ANON:  S-ANON is a group which provides support for the spouse of a Sex Addict as a trauma survivor and do not assume the spouse to be a co-addict, co-sex addict or co-dependent.  These meeting are not 12 step programs.  Although some partners of SA gain skill and support form 12 step groups (programs,, approaches) the support groups listed here address the trauma of the discovery of SA in a loved one and offer strategies to deal with that trauma.

On discovery of SA in a spouse, the partner under goes multidimensional trauma and may exhibit behavior typical of a trauma victim.  Such behaviors may include: anger, hyper-vigilance, hyper startle response, instability, recurring nightmares, intrusive memories, flashbacks, fear, sleep and eating disturbances, concentration difficulties, and others.  These characteristics are typical for any person who feels violated, unsafe and betrayed as the spouse of a Sex Addicts feels.

When dealing with complex trauma some people turn to coping mechanisms that are not healthy.  After a partner deals with the trauma some may identify characteristics in themselves that could be address in a 12 step program and additional support groups may also be helpful.

The purpose of these support groups is to address the initial crisis, trauma, loss, grief and recovery needed by the partner of a sex addict.

Sex Addict Anonymous:  As a fellowship of recovering addicts, Sex Addicts Anonymous offers a message of hope to anyone who suffers from sex addiction.

Through long and painful experience, we came to realize that we were powerless over our sexual thoughts and behaviors and that our preoccupation with sex was causing progressively severe adverse consequences for us, our families, and our friends. Despite many failed promises to ourselves and attempts to change, we discovered that we were unable to stop acting out sexually by ourselves.

Many of us came to this realization when we started attending SAA meetings. In that setting we heard stories similar to ours and realized that recovery from our problem was possible. We learned through the SAA Fellowship that we were not hopelessly defective.

The basic principles of recovery practiced by SAA are found in the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. Although we are not affiliated with AA or with any other organization or agency, we are, indeed, grateful for permission to modify and apply the Steps and Traditions to sex addiction, making recovery possible for us.
